Muffins with Moms

Hello Parents!

Last Friday it was the dads’ turn to have breakfast at school with the kids. Well, this Friday will be the moms’ turn. There will be muffins and probably some other yummy nibbles set up in the lunch area, so come between 7:30 and 9:30 and enjoy some goodies with the kiddies.

Calling all Gardeners...

Here's a note that I received asking to post it to the blog.

#1 - "Green Team Garden News - Please come join us this Sat., April

10th from 9 am - 11 am in the Stevenson Garden for Phase 2 of our

Spring Clean-up and Planting. It will be light work, but we could use

your help. You can enter the Stevenson campus from the California

Street gate. Bring your work clothes, sunscreen and a hat - we have

plenty of gloves. Your kids will have a great time, too, so bring them

along!"

#2 - "We are looking for a few volunteers to help us during school

hours the week of April 12th. Miss Ginnetti thinks it is a great idea

to let the kids come out to the Garden during the afternoons that week

to help us plant. They will be testing in the mornings so the Garden

will be welcomed change of pace. Miss G has spoken to the teachers and

they have already agreed to help facilitate this plan. So we need to

find six or seven willing volunteers to come out to the Garden between

12:30 and 3 pm to help supervise the kids as we plant the remainder of

the Garden.

Donuts for Dads

When: April 9th

Time: 7:30 to 9:30 am

Why: Because Dads Rock!

Dear Dads,

Please come to school with your student Friday morning and join us for a continental style breakfast for you and your child. Join in on the fun and enjoy hot coffee and an assortment of bagels and muffins while visiting with other dads and spending some quality time with your kids.

Stevenson Rocks!

Just a little note about this huge fundraiser to benefit our kids, called Stevenson Rocks! This year, the theme is the '50s and will be held on May 7th. There will be games, contests, a classic car show, food & drink (of course), and even a silent auction.

As for the silent auction, each classroom is being asked to provide items for a gift basket that can be auctioned off. The themes for our class along with Mrs. Rondinella/Mrs. Boulais, and Mrs. Baade are 1) Dixie Fried” – Cooking stuff…William Sonoma gift certificate, baking mixes, meat rubs, gift cards to a grocery store (via our escrip), baking pans and mixes, etc. and 2) I Only Have Eyes For You” – Date Night…Restaurant gift certificates (Morton’s, Lowery’s, Ruth Chris, Ca Del Sole, etc…), flower shop gift card, AMC theatre tickets (via Escript), live theatre (Pasadena Playhouse, etc.). However, if you don't have time to purchase anything for your student to bring in or would just prefer to donate money, please drop off a check payable to Families For Stevenson in the office with the class in the memo field.

Whatever you are able to provide, please bring it to the office by April 16th. Just please remember that any donation at all helps in a big way, whatever is within your means.

This event is critically important to raising the funds needed for the dance and garden and library programs, but we are also trying to raise enough money to be able to keep our PE and music teacher for next year. Due to budget cuts, we are going to lose them.

After School Clothing Sale

Hi Everyone,

Today and tomorrow (2/23 & 2/24) from 2:00-3:15 will be a great time for you to check out the table by the left, front gate. There are lots of clothing items to choose from for your kids, and the awesome part is that everything is just $1. This is a great opportunity to stock up on a few new school clothing items or even some summer play clothes.

All proceeds benefit our library. See you there.

America's Favorite School

I wasn't able to attend the Room Rep meeting earlier this week, but I did hear from our lead RR, Mrs. Caneday, that our school is participating in a contest which appears from the website to be sponsored, at least in part, by Target Stores. It's called America's Favorite School, and you can only register once and vote once.

The top school wins $20,000, but there are other prizes given out totaling $16,000, including weekly prizes.

Please go check out this website and vote if the mood strikes you. Our school is listed under "R. L. Stevenson". It took me a bit to find it, so I'm trying to give everyone a leg up. Apparently it was also recommended that parents email their friends and family members the link as well so that they can vote.

Hi,

Throughout the next couple of days, I will be sending each of you an email asking you to confirm any information I get from the school such as your email address, home address, cell phone numbers, etc. As your responses come back in, I will be updating a spreadsheet containing all of the information so that we can reach each other as necessary. It should take you less than 5 minutes to fill out the request and email it back to me.

I would appreciate your prompt replies so that I can begin working on our class list right away.

Welcome to Ms. Lavitt's Class!

Hi,

I want to take this opportunity to say that I will take responsibility for managing the class's blog, and barring anyone else saying they would prefer to do it, I wanted to introduce myself a bit. My husband, Brett, and I moved from Arkansas in September 2008 and spent a year in Glendale, but just last month we moved to Burbank. Our son Kyle is in Ms. Lavitt's class, but we also have a kindergartner (Ryan) in Mrs. Carrillo's class. We are very pleased that we were able to find a home in the Stevenson district.

As for the blog, this will hopefully be an excellent way for us all to stay informed about classroom happenings, such as upcoming festivities and field trips (and any volunteers needed for such), student birthdays, homework assignments, important reminders from Ms. Lavitt, and her wishlist for classroom supplies. This blog will probably be a moving target for a while, but with all the things going on in class as well as participation from you and your children, including your own posts, this will become an effective tool in keeping people connected.

As a room rep, please feel free to contact me with suggestions or questions on here or after the roster comes out, via email or phone if you don't already have it. I do ask your patience while I'm getting my bearings on blogging and being a room rep, both firsts for me. And if you know of anything relevant, by all means, put it out here for the rest of us.
